Three generations in the same studio. A faculty trained on the world's great stages — Rome, Zurich, Helsinki, La Scala in Milan — who every evening returns to the barre with the students of Girona.

Her working and artistic life has always been centred on the world of dance, continuing the path begun by her mother, Rosa Maria Viñals, who founded her own school in 1956 as a pupil of the master Joan Magriñà.

Her main training in classical dance was with the renowned master Joan Tena in Barcelona. Jazz dance technique at the Anna Maleras studio in Barcelona. Contemporary dance training with Ramón Oller at La Fàbrica (Barcelona). In 1975 she was the first to bring jazz dance to Girona.

Further training in classical ballet and jazz pedagogy at the Ramón Solé Dance Centre (Barcelona), the École de danse Rosella Hightower (Cannes), the Carmen Roche Dance Centre (Madrid) and the Bournonville Ballet Seminar (Biarritz). She regularly attends dance classes and courses in New York and London, and has been a guest at masterclasses at the Finnish National Opera (Helsinki) and with Elisabetta Terabust, director of the corps de ballet of La Scala in Milan.

Creator of the choreography for the film WakaWaka (1987, Kim Densalat). Trained in anatomy, physiology and dance pathologies at the University of Zaragoza. Limón technique (contemporary dance) and Simonson technique (Simonson Jazz Technique Certificate). She founded and directs the Companyia de dansa de Girona dance company, with musical support from La Locomotora Negra (1992).

At the age of three he took his first ballet steps at his mother's school. A graduate as an academic classical dancer of the Dance School of the Rome Opera House (directed by Paola Jorio). He combined dance with Education studies at the UNED.

A professional dancer in soloist roles at the Baths of Caracalla with the corps de ballet of the Rome Opera House (directed by Carla Fracci), the Zurich Ballet (Heinz Spoerli) and the Finnish National Ballet (Björn and Greve).

He has danced before Pope John Paul II in St Peter's Square and before Norodom Sihamoni, a former dancer and the King of Cambodia. Further training with Elisabetta Terabust; currently at the Pineapple Dance Studios in London and at the Broadway Dance Center, the Alvin Ailey School and Steps on Broadway in New York. Teacher for the University of Girona sports service activity programme.

Maria Rigat

Classical ballet & jazz

Maria started at the school when she was three years old and has danced in every show and event of the house ever since, performing soloist and leading roles.

Seeing her fine teaching and artistic gifts, Maribel invited her to join the team as a classical ballet and jazz teacher.
